Controllers of the OTS product series are distributed temperature sensing (DTS) devices measuring temperature profiles along optical fibres. A single OTS device provides well-resolved spatial and temporal temperature profiles for up to eight optical fibres with lengths of up to 16 km. Sensor fibres are immune to electrical interference and can be used in harsh and even explosive environments. OTS controllers can be operated at remote locations without PC. They transfer data via standard network protocols to PC in control centres, SCADA or PLC systems.

The OTS controller is modular in design and has the following sub-modules:

• Frequency generator with laser source
• Switching power supply
• CPU and communication (Relay, RS232, Ethernet)
• Optical module with filter and detectors

The OTS controller can be connected to a 24 VDC or 115/230 VAC power supply. During commissioning the OTS is parameterized via a separately connected PC/Laptop. During operation this PC can be removed. The temperature measurement as well as further data and event processing is autonomously conducted by the OTS itself. The temperature profiles, or the results derived from these, can be transmitted via standard interfaces from the evaluation unit as required, and be either displayed or further processed by PC, SCACA or PLC systems.
